It is with deep sadness that we lost a beloved long-time community advocate and supporter of Vermont Humanities this past year, Brenda Bisbee.
Most well known as the founder of the Vermont Women’s Fund, Brenda joined Vermont Humanities board of directors as a Governor’s appointee from 2000-2004, was reelected to a three-year term until 2007, and continued to serve as a community member on our program and development committees through 2010.
As a stalwart donor to many organizations, including ours for 38 years, we recognize Brenda’s generous 2023 bequest to Vermont Humanities, administered by her son and trustee, Burlington-based attorney Joshua L. Simonds.
“This gift really brought things together, although her relationship with Vermont Humanities was a chapter in her later life, she was able to make a lasting impact to an organization that she really believed in,” said Josh, who also mentioned how easy it is to plan for an estate gift and encouraged others to consider giving in this way.
We are very honored and grateful to have received this generous donation leading up to our 50th anniversary, which in turn, gets reinvested in Vermont communities to inspire a lifelong love of learning.
Please consider a legacy gift to Vermont Humanities and sustain us through the next fifty years.
