Every year we create an online Annual Report that includes highlights from each year, as well as a list of donors. In this section you can also download reports on our Covid-19 relief and recovery efforts with the Vermont Arts Council, as well as detailed IRS returns.
2025 Annual Report

Highlights of 2025 included the continued growth of our Vermont Reads program, several in-person early literacy conferences, a visit to Vermont by the former US Poet Laureate, and another season of Humanities Camps.
Highlights of 2024 included the overwhelming success of Gather for Vermont Reads, a star-studded Vermont Book Awards, the largest number of Humanities Camps in recent years, and the first-ever collaboration with New Hampshire Humanities to bring a Smithsonian exhibit to our communities.
Your support is critical to our mission. Whether through federal and state funding or your individual gift, we rely on you to bring the humanities to every corner of Vermont.
This year saw the re-boot of one of our oldest programs, dating back to our first years: the Fall Conference is now the Fall Festival of the Humanities and almost 5,000 Vermonters participated in events across the state last October.
Along with the Vermont Arts Council, we distributed almost $1.2 million in Covid-19 Cultural Recovery Grants in 2021, and over $780,000 in Covid-19 Emergency Relief Grants in 2020. Download our reports of these efforts.
Our seasonal “Words in the Woods” program allows Vermonters and visitors to enjoy our state’s natural beauty while listening to and reading literature in the outdoors.
Humanities Camps are filled with reading and writing projects, field trips, and outdoor activities.
We won a 2020 Schwartz Prize for best public humanities programming in the U.S. for Vermont Reads 2019: “March: Book One.”
We supported the Chandler Center for the Arts’ Global Connections Youth Outreach program, which highlights artists from around the world.
Our free public events help bring the power of the humanities to communities across Vermont.
