50 Years

2024 marked 50 years of Vermont Humanities as an organization, but over these five decades the heart of Vermont Humanities has become so much more than just the staff or our programming.

As we look back on the last year we reflect on the many years and people that have come before, while also looking towards the next 50 years of what the humanities in Vermont could be. Our staff and partners shared just a few of those important moments over the last year in these short videos.

Community Programs Officer Jacob Pelletier and Data & Communications Officer Emily Kittredge sat down to share the power of poetry with our Words in the Woods program, and how the start of a new Veteran’s Book Group in Brattleboro inspires us to keep making vital connections across the state.

Jacob on Words in the Woods in 2024:

Emily on the impact a new reading group can have on a community:

Literacy Programs Officer Wendy Martin and Executive Director Christopher Kaufman Ilstrup took a moment to reflect on the ways in which a single book or librarian can alter the direction of a community or a state and make people see their communities in a whole new way.

Wendy on how one person at a local library can make a lasting difference:

Christopher shares the energy and inspiration he feels from our partnerships:
