The Double-Edged Sword of Technology
Magic and Loss: The Internet as Art
In just fifty years, the Internet has evolved from a military and engineering project to an extension of traditional media to its own full-fledged civilization. Writer and cultural critic Virginia Heffernan presents an original and far-reaching analysis of what the Internet is and does. Life online—in its current social, portable, hackable, global incarnation—rewards certain virtues and punishes others. Heffernan will explore how the Internet’s forms and functions are changing how we perceive, experience, and understand the world.
Recorded at the Vermont Humanities Council’s Fall Conference 2017: “The Double-Edged Sword of Technology.”
