Dartmouth professor and historian of American religion Randall Balmer both looks at the internal diversity of American Evangelicalism, which is generally seen as monolithic but that includes a progressive strain focused on personal and social reform as opposed to theological orthodoxy, and reflects on its theological insights and contradictions.
