Jay Craven

Kingdom County Productions co-founder, Jay Craven, is an award-winning director, writer, and producer, whose narrative films include High Water  (1989); Where the Rivers Flow North (1993); A Stranger in the Kingdom (1997); In Jest (1999); The Year that Trembled (2003); Disappearances (2006); Northern Borders (2012); Wetware (2018); and Blood Brothers (2021), and Martin Eden (2023). He is currently touring Lost Nation, a new film set during the turbulent period of the American Revolution in Vermont. Craven writes regular arts and public issue commentaries and is also writing a memoir.

Vermont Movies? Why? And How?

For five decades Jay Craven has written, produced, and directed character-driven films deeply rooted in Vermont and New England, including five films based on the works of Howard Frank Mosher. Craven describes working with actors such as Rip Torn, Tantoo Cardinal, Kris Kristofferson and Michael J. Fox, and shares the satisfactions and challenges that come from a deep immersion into place-based narrative.
