We list all confirmed events on our calendar, and promote selected events through our email lists and social media channels. When advance scheduling permits, events may be listed in our print newsletter. We will provide you with flyers and posters for the full series.

Host organizations must also agree to make vigorous local publicity efforts to draw a large, inclusive audience.

Here are some great ways to promote a Reading & Discussion series:

  • List all events on your website and any social media outlets (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) you use.
  • Hang posters or leave stacks of flyers in prominent spots around town (libraries, general stores, coffee shops, etc.).
  • List each event in local and statewide newspapers, radio stations, event websites, and listserves such as Front Porch Forum, Seven Days, and your Chamber of Commerce.
  • Send a press release to local papers and radio stations.
  • Partner with other organizations in your community or nearby towns to cross-promote the series.
  • Prominently display the available books alongside flyers and posters promoting the series. When a patron borrows the book, remind them to attend the discussion session. Even if they dislike the book or don’t finish it, they may still enjoy the discussion and provide their thoughts.
  • Consider providing refreshments at the discussion sessions, and let your patrons know there will be food and drink.
  • Extend personal invitations to patrons by e-mail, phone, or in person.

Credit Language and VHC Logos

In any publicity or other project materials you create, please credit the Vermont Humanities Council by using the language, “A Vermont Humanities Council series hosted by ____________________.” Include our logo (download vertical or horizontal) wherever possible.

Because VHC is an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, the following disclaimer must appear in all publicity: “Supported in part by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the Vermont Humanities Council (VHC). Any views, findings, conclusions, or recommendations expressed in this program do not necessarily represent those of the NEH or VHC.”
