After Odysseus awakens on the shores of his native Ithaca, he thinks he is once again among foreign peoples. The Odyssey depicts his return to a home that is no longer familiar. Yet Homer’s concept of hospitality suggests a model for a reciprocal relationship between the familiar and the foreign. Led by: Carol Dougherty, Professor of Classical Studies, Wellesley College
