Please note: This talk is part of our Fall Conference 2017. You must have registered for the conference to attend this event.

This talk will examine the relationship between war and technological advancement through the lens of the race to develop nuclear weapons in World War II. What does this race tell us about the relationship between scientific discovery and the production of a useable commodity? Why was the United States able to win the race so decisively? Finally, the talk will look at the postwar development of “peaceful” applications for nuclear power.

Led by: Andrew Buchanan, Senior Lecturer of History, University of Vermont
