Vermont Reads: Immigration Experience in the Slate Valley of New York and Vermont

November 17, 2018
1:00 pm

Slate Valley Museum

We’ll meet at the Slate Valley Museum in Granville, N.Y., to view exhibits that interpret the immigration experience of many families who moved to the slate region of Vermont and New York to work in the slate industry. Through the themes of culture, economics, and education, the exhibits explore the reasons that thousands of immigrants from Wales, Ireland, Slovakia, and Italy came to work in the slate quarries, and how Eastern European Jewish families join the cultural mix to provide goods and services to the expanding population. $5 museum admission.
