Vermont Reads Book Discussion: The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
St. Johnsbury Athenaeum
2020 marks the 18th year of the Vermont Reads program, in which Vermont Humanities invites people across the state to read the same book and participate in a wide variety of community activities related to the book’s themes. This year’s pick is Mississippi writer Angie Thomas’ debut novel, The Hate U Give, which runs headlong into the challenges faced by young black kids in a world that doesn’t value their bodies or respect their voices. Yet it’s a universal story about a young girl making the choice to speak out. Join the St. Johnsbury Athenaeum for a book discussion. All are welcome to participate. Check with Adele West-Fisher, Coordinator of Library Services, for availability of books to read before the discussion.
