About Alison Bechdel
Cartoonist Alison Bechdel’s 2006 graphic novel, Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic, was named Best Book of the Year by Time magazine. Much of Bechdel’s work focuses on the overlap of the political and the personal spheres, the relationship of the self to the world outside. Her 2012 memoir, Are You My Mother? was one of Time magazine’s top 10 books of 2012. Her most recent book, The Secret to Superhuman Strength, won a 2021 Vermont Book Award. Bechdel’s comic strip, “Dykes to Watch Out For,” ran for 25 years, until 2008. Bechdel has been awarded Guggenheim and MacArthur fellowships.
