Indigenous Plants & Their Traditional Uses

Live Event
September 24: 6:00 pm

Carol McGranaghan is a member of the Abenaki Nation of Missisquoi. She will give a presentation on the indigenous plants used traditionally by Abenaki for medicine, art, and food. Her presentation includes a slide show featuring native Vermont plants, their uses, and the parts utilized. She includes information on how to harvest while honoring our rooted relations and the pollinators who depend on them.

Carol makes jelly and syrups using wild flowers, herbs, and fruit that she harvests from her property in Orange, Vermont. Her products are called “Vermont Wild Things.” She will bring her Queen Anne’s Lace jelly to share at the end of her presentation.

This is the first presentation in the series – WHO WAS HERE BEFORE: A series on Indigenous History & Teachings of The Past & Present.

This series is supported in part by a grant from Vermont Humanities, in partnership with the Vermont 250th Commission.
