Historic houses help us imagine what life in colonial New England looked like—but what did it sound like? Early music duo Lyracle explores documented viol players from colonial New England alongside those left out of historical records, especially women and people of color. Through English repertoire likely heard in the seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, Lyracle reimagines their varied musical worlds. Experience music by beloved composers like Henry Purcell and lesser-known contemporaries, newly recontextualized to celebrate local, historic music-making in all its forms: silly, serious, and everything in between across homes, halls, and communities that deeply shaped New England’s history.
This performance is free and open to all (although tickets are required to attend). The Shoreham Inn will open its historic tavern to purchase a beverage before the performance. Attendees must be 21+ to purchase alcohol. Non-alcoholic options are also available.
