Extreme Survival: Lessons from Those Who Triumphed Against All Odds

We have all heard amazing stories of survival that rendered us awestruck. But too often, we don’t realize the wealth of information we can learn from people who make it to the other side of life’s most daunting challenges. In this talk, New York Times bestselling author Michael J. Tougias chronicles harrowing survival stories and then discusses lessons to learn from these experience.

For his book Extreme Survival Tougias interviewed over 100 people who survived against all odds, and researched many historical figures who have achieved the near-impossible. In this talk, Tougias uses slides from several survival events to give the audience an edge-of-your-seat experience that also provides useful techniques that we can all use when faced with adversity or aspire to achieve a difficult goal.

Michael Tougias is a New York Times bestselling author and co-author of 30 books, including Extreme Survival: Lessons From Those Who Have Triumphed Against All Odds,  King Philip’s Indian WarThe Waters Between Us: A Boy, A Father, Outdoor Misadventures & The Healing Power of Nature and several true survival stories such as Fatal ForecastA Storm Too SoonOverboardRescue of the Bounty, and The Finest Hours (now a Disney movie).

Tougias is a graduate of St. Michael’s College and has received several awards for his writing, including the Editor’s Choice Award from the American Library Association for his book about a sea rescue in the Blizzard of 1978 titled Ten Hours Until Dawn. His book There’s A Porcupine In My Outhouse: The Vermont Misadventures of a Mountain Man Wannabe won the Best Nature Book of the Year from the Independent Publishers. Several of his books have been adapted for middle readers. Tougias is a frequent guest on The Weather Channel, ABC’s 20/20, NPR and other national TV
