May 11, 2027: 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Join award-winning cartoonist Marek Bennett for a behind-the-scenes look at comics & graphic novels drawn from historical primary sources.

  • Why (& how) do artists draw stories from historical materials?
  • What happens when we create new comics from primary sources?
  • How do comics weave sources together, to deepen our understanding of the past & present?

This talk demonstrates basic techniques of historical cartooning, & explores the roles of research & imagination in the creative process. It may even inspire you to create your own historical comics from local history!
