Immortalized in Dorothea Lange’s photographs of migrant workers, the Farm Security Administration helped rural Americans improve their lives through small loans and improved farm practices during the Great Depression. Middlebury professor Kathryn Morse explores the program’s successes and failures in relation to our current environmental and social crises.

Kathryn Morse is the John C. Elder Professor in Environmental Studies and Professor of History at Middlebury College.
