Part of the Legacy of Racism series. This series features recent Pulitzer-Prize winning works that consider the American legacy of racism through four genres. Created as a part of the “Democracy and the Informed Citizen” initiative, a special grant funded by the Mellon Foundation and administered by the Federation of State Humanities Councils, which seeks to deepen the public’s knowledge and appreciation of the vital connections between democracy, the humanities, journalism, and an informed citizenry.
