Comic Josie Leavitt Performs Story of Her Cancer Struggle

Newport ~ Award-winning comic and storyteller Josie Leavitt will share a solo performance about her battle with cancer at Goodrich Memorial Library in Newport on November 6 at 7:00 pm. Her performance, So This Happened: A Comic Confronts Cancer,” is part of the Vermont Humanities Council’s First Wednesdays lecture series and is free and open to the public.

Leavitt was diagnosed with breast cancer in early 2018. In her solo show, she takes the audience on her almost year-long cancer journey, pulling no punches in an intimate performance about her treatment.

Josie Leavitt is an award-winning stand up comic and storyteller. In addition to performing, she has been speaking to oncologists about how to better cancer treatment. Using humor in her approach, Leavitt hopes to change how cancer patients are treated by the medical field and the general public. Leavitt is the producer of the Flynn Theatre’s longest-running series, Stand Up, Sit Down and Laugh, and also founded the Vermont Comedy Divas as a showcase for female comics.
