About the Vermont Humanities CouncilBecause Ideas Matter
Mary Otto of Norwich is a retired high school English teacher and teacher consultant with a lifelong dedication to the humanities. Having worked at schools in New York and London, Mary moved to Vermont in 2002 and helped develop the English curriculum at the Sharon Academy. A native Iowan, she graduated from Grinnell College, earned an MA in English at Hunter College at the City University of New York, and completed a PhD at New York University.
She teaches courses in creative nonfiction writing for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Dartmouth, is a member of the Alumni Council at Grinnell, and is a long-time volunteer at the Norwich Public Library.
