DCF Children’s Book Award Winners ~ 4 sessions The Dorothy Canfield Fisher Award, created in 1957, is co-sponsored by the Vermont Parent-Teachers Association and the Vermont Department of Libraries. While a list of eligible titles is drawn up each year by educators and librarians, the winner is selected based on votes by the books’ most avid readers – children. According to the award criteria, the purpose has always been to encourage children to become enthusiastic and discriminating readers. Canfield Fisher, a famed Vermont novelist and short story writer, was herself an avid reader and promoter of good literature.
