Poetry: Sounds and Senses ~ From Shakespeare to slam poetry, the pulse and power of words. One selection for this theme will be the 2008 Vermont Reads book, A Restless Spirit: The Story of Robert Frost, making campers part of a statewide, year-long program.
Heroes and Heroines ~ Classic protagonists, historic personalities, sport stars, superheroes. Whom do we admire and why? Why do superheroes exist, why do we like them so much, and what do they reveal about humanity? Books may include classic literature, biographies, sports stories, and a graphic novel.
Ancient Egypt ~ The history, culture, and mythology of Egypt. Campers can learn how to decipher hieroglyphics, identify ancient pharaohs, and thwart mysterious curses, wholeheartedly immersing themselves into the topic. A museum field trip could be a wonderful part of the experience. |
